Cold Turkey Diaries

Here's what happens when you stop smoking.
Within weeks you can breathe deeply and
freely again, so you decide it’s important to look as good as
you feel.
You dust
off the treadmill, break out the free weights and begin
exercising. “One a
day” workouts become “two-a-days” and exercising is no longer a
chore. It becomes a
cleansing and enjoyable activity you actually look forward to.
You decide it makes sense to pay attention not only to what
you’re working off your body, but what you’re adding to it.
You begin to read labels
and eat healthy. Antacids become unnecessary because your
digestion improves.
You regain your sense of taste and smell.
Because you can actually taste and smell what you're
eating, you don’t need to eat as much to become satisfied.
You also eat more slowly given you're not hyped on
nicotine.
Your urge to drink disappears, as do the carbs and calories from
your diet. And when
you do decide to drink, you actually enjoy it and drink small
amounts.

Teachers: Unsung Heroes

I know you will say that I’m prejudiced, but I
would like to dispel some myths about teachers. First of all it is
not an easy job. I wouldn’t do it for all the tea in C hina.
They earn every penny they make. Actually they should be paid a lot
more money. Just the thought of spending eight hours a day with all
those kids would me crazy. Not only are they with them, but they
have to try to teach them something.
The desire to learn has to be instilled in the
home and in the school. The teacher can’t be expected to make the
child learn without the help of the parents. It is hard to
understand the expectations of some parents. They can’t understand
why the teacher can’t get through to the child. Of course, they
sometimes forget that they have a responsibility at home to help out
the teacher.
The first thing you always hear is those
teachers have it so easy. They get three months off in the summer
and two weeks off at Christmas. Boy, all that time off and they get
paid for it. Most elementary teachers have the same schedule that my
wife has. At school by eight or earlier. The kids leave at three
fifteen, not the teachers. Most are there till five or after.

The Internet: Educational, Yet
Perilous

Now
that the school year is in full swing, your children are learning
the skills that will benefit them in their future years and career.
Thes e
skills are honed by teachers in classrooms throughout
Lake County. The skills our children learn in
the classroom and at home from their parents are of the utmost
importance, as they will help to guide our children into their
futures.
Parents and teachers work
hard to insure their children (students) are safe and secure; the
potential threats to our efforts are constantly changing and
evolving. We are living
in a world that is increasingly driven through technology.
While the Internet is a phenomenal tool in assisting students
with education, it is an unfortunate fact that sexual predators use
it as an avenue to find and exploit our children.
The Crimes Against Children Research
Center indicates that one in four youths in the past year have been
sexually approached or solicited online.

Keeping Your Head in the Clouds

Well, more to the
point, keeping your PC in the cloud to be specific.
Yet another rage in the IT industry, Cloud Comp uting
refers to a broad range of “services” that are available across the
internet. Some of those
services may include servers, applications (programs), and networks.
Ostensibly, you are accessing a resource across an internet
connection. So why is
this type of computing starting to take hold?
Well, there are a couple of very significant factors that are
enabling users to operate in this type of environment.
First, broadband
access, or internet access at very high speeds, has become much more
prevalent and the speeds keep increasing.
Not so much as 10 years ago, it was virtually unheard of if
you had an internet circuit that exceeded the speed of a dial-up
modem. At 56kbps, you
weren’t getting anywhere very quickly, unless you worked for a
corporation that had the budget to afford a high capacity circuit.
Nowadays, affordable, fast internet connections are available
to most home users via such mediums as your telephone lines, cable
television, or wireless.
